Spend budgets and zero balance
New accounts start with a $50 monthly spend budget and auto-pause enabled. Change the amount or auto-pause setting in Billing & Credits → Spend budget. The budget is separate from the money in your credit balance.
Tracked monthly spend includes AI Gateway, playground and dashboard-agent model charges at their recorded billed prices, along with managed-database usage, repository-agent compute and secrets usage. Domain checkout purchases are excluded. Reporting and reconciliation can lag.
At the budget
AI Gateway requests, dashboard-agent model steps, and autonomous agent work stop when the spend pause is active. Repository-agent runtime and schedules are reconciled in the background. In-flight work may finish and usage reporting can lag; this is not a guarantee that total charges cannot exceed the budget.
Hosting is outside the budget pause: running containers, databases, storage, secrets, and static delivery can continue to incur charges. Raise the budget, remove it, or turn auto-pause off to clear a budget pause. A top-up alone does not raise the budget. Changes may need the next reconciliation cycle to reach workloads.
At zero balance
AI and agent work cannot start with insufficient credits. For hosted container projects, a seven-day grace period begins when the zero balance is recorded. Notifications are attempted at the start, after 84 hours, after 144 hours, and when the hosting pause is applied after 168 hours.
The hosting pause scales container project instances to zero. It does not stop the shared database pool, erase objects, cancel domains, or disable static delivery. Retained resources and traffic can therefore still incur costs. This pause is not a general delete or cost-stop control.
Recovery
A top-up that restores a positive balance starts recovery. Container startup and background reconciliation take time; a separate spend-budget pause still applies. Check project status after adding credits. Resource data is retained by the pause, but domain expiry and explicit deletion have their own lifecycle rules.
