Limits and billing

A database costs nothing to provision — what you pay for is what it actually does. This page covers how capacity scales with your traffic and what shows up on your invoice.

Serverless scaling

Capacity scales up automatically as your app puts more load on the database, and back down again once that load drops — you never resize an instance by hand. Capacity never drops all the way to powered-off, though: a small floor stays available at all times so a database that’s gone quiet doesn’t leave the next request waiting on a cold start.

What gets metered

Three things are metered continuously: compute capacity, storage, and I/O (the read and write operations your database performs). Nothing here needs configuring — SetCloud measures actual usage on the shared cluster and attributes it back to your database.

The Managed Databases invoice line

Metered usage rolls up monthly into a single Managed Databases line on your invoice, at the same margin applied across every SetCloud service, and is deducted from your credit balance like any other usage. Exact rates for compute, storage, and I/O are on the pricing page — this page won’t repeat them.
